Chris Lydic

I turn ambiguous problems into shipped products.

I bring the technical depth to build things that last, the curiosity to learn a domain inside and out, and the clarity to explain complex work to anyone in the room.

What I do

  • Build products from scratch: research, UI/UX, architecture, infrastructure, copy, and the paperwork
  • Give AI systems the structure, tooling, and context they need to produce work you can actually rely on
  • Ship quickly in a regulated, high-stakes medical domain without breaking things
  • Slow down and think hard when the work calls for it
  • Hunt down bugs and performance problems that cost real money
  • Turn large technical initiatives into a plan my team can execute
  • Help engineers get unstuck
  • Take photos and doodle endlessly

Akineticzen LLC

I started this solo company as a place to seriously experiment with my independent projects.

I've shipped three products. Most of the engineering has gone into Note Hoard, a read-it-later app that summarizes what you save, with a pipeline that scrapes, classifies, tags, and writes the notes for you. Mori is a focused life calendar app for iOS and Android. Montage Engine is a tool for creating, publishing, and researching social media content.

It has also been my proving ground for working with AI agents. The main lesson is that you can't vibecode through a domain you don't understand. AI lets me move fast, but only once I understand the problem well enough to write good context and rules, and to know when not to use it at all.

The other lesson is what it takes to turn an idea into a real business. Some of that is paperwork, legal setup, and app store review. More of it is understanding what users actually do and need. Everyone knows that's important. Doing the work to find out is the hard part.

Genospace

Product Engineer I → Product Engineer II (2021) → Product Engineer III (2025)

Genospace processes medical records at scale to match patients with clinical trials. I joined in 2019 as a junior engineer and now spend most of my time on architecture, planning, review, and mentoring.

Rebuilding search. The data had outgrown the original design: one enormous document per patient, and a search cluster that kept everything live forever. I led the Elasticsearch migration that replaced it, splitting patient data into a hot search tier and a cold warehouse across six applications and fifteen microservices. For part of that I was acting lead for the team while our engineering manager was on leave.

Systems work. Built the parsing stage of the Kafka ingest pipeline that replaced the monolith. Led security upgrades across three applications. Rewrote the research portal in Vue.

Working across the company. A lot of what I do is translation: between junior and senior engineers, between my team and the company's architect, and between engineering and leadership or stakeholders who need to know what a technical decision means for them. I've onboarded eight engineers, and written extensive onboarding and technical documentation.

Fixing what nobody asked about. The tests and linters had quietly rotted, with about 40% of tests failing. I went through the codebase package by package with AI agents, keeping every pull request small enough to actually review, until everything passed. The rules I wrote along the way are now what our agents follow when they touch tests.

Cordova, Node.js, React

Iryo (3fs)

An internship in Slovenia, through the IAESTE technical internship program. Iryo was a seven-person startup, so I worked directly with the founders and the other developers on projects I mostly ran myself. Learning from people in every role at once, in a company that small, shaped a lot of how I work.

I built a mobile app for storing medical records and sharing them with clinicians, and a Node.js/React tool for uploading photos and audio from a phone.
